Professional Development

District Professional Development:

Per the 21-24 PESPA CBA, Section 16.1, Employees shall be paid for up to 20 hours for professional learning hours annually at their regular rate to attend District developed job related in-service opportunities, including all relevant trainings that are offered to certificated staff (unless specific class limitations exist), all training designed to qualify for the Washington State Paraeducator Certification (in district, out of district, or online). LPNs may use these hours for continuing education credits required for certification. Should employees wish to attend other job-related classes, classes that relate to another position, workshops or training in lieu of this, prior approval by the Director of Human Resources will be required. The District will provide Paraeducators, Interpreter/Tutors, and Coordinators 14 hours of professional learning annually toward the completion of paraeducator certification as required and funded by the legislature, paid at the employee’s regular rate of pay. Such compensation shall be paid upon proof of attendance/completion submitted to the Director of Human Resources. Clock hours or credit will be awarded for all clock hour eligible training completed. The District’s form will be used with approval of the Director of Human Resources. Compensation for training and classes attended shall not preclude the employee from earning clock hours or credits. Ten clock hours equal one credit for calculating increments in Schedule A, of the 21-24 PESPA CBA.

Interpreters and LPNs please read Section 16.2 as well.

See Section 16.3, Specialized Training, for information regarding training courses required as a condition of continued employment.

Once you've received approval and after completing the class, you will need to complete a timesheet for the approved number of hours of in-service pay and submit it, with proof of attendance and clock hour form, to HR for processing.
